Authentic Relating

Connection is often our deepest longing and simultaneously our greatest fear

Experience being your whole self while being in connection

Does this sound familiar?

If you can relate, then there are others who can too

What if learning some tools could help you

feel  safe, alive and free   in your relationships?

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place” - George Bernard Shaw

I imagine you might have internalised stories that have encouraged you to be cautious about revealing your experience. These might have been something along the lines of:

💫 The fear of being ‘too much’: The belief that having needs makes you a burden on others

💫 Fear of becoming ‘unloveable’: The belief that what other people might think of you determines your value

💫 Fear of ‘getting it wrong’: The belief that what and how you share things will inevitably backfire into unmanageable conflict

But what if I told you that meaningful relationships flourish when you learn to express your needs, name your assumptions, and reveal your experience? When we cultivate a culture of care and respond from a place of love, intimacy inevitably surfaces.

Part of learning to ‘Authentically Relate’ (more info below), is embodying practical and simple tools to support you in revealing your authentic experience and being received as you do so. While also building your capacity to offer the same to others.

If you’re on this page, I trust it’s because you are ready to invite more intimacy into your life and bring awareness to what prevents you from it. I’m here to support you in learning how to feel safer and more alive in connection with another.

Elizabeth Gilbert

“I used to think the world is not a safe place for my truth and now I realise you make the world a safe place for you
by telling the truth"

What is Authentic Relating?

Ever felt like something you were saying, didn’t quite convey the level or depth of what you were experiencing? Leading to conversations about ‘things’ that weren’t really about the actual thing you wanted or needed to express?

When you Authentically Relate, you learn to slow things down and treat everything as a practice. You aren’t attempting to get ‘something right’, but rather build a habit of noticing what’s alive in your body, in the present moment, to inform what you might share. What makes AR different from day-to-day conversation is you are:

Authentic: Your perception of reality is real and it is valid, you allow others to see, hear, and know your inner world

Relating: You are impacted by the relationships you are a part of with different parts of you coming online, depending on who you are with. Recognising that they too experience a reality of their own that is real and valid

Authentic relating offers an integrated set of skills and tools that are potent, versatile, and easy to learn and apply in everyday life, with everyone you encounter. It combines cutting-edge research into the science of relationships with the timeless tenets of ancient wisdom and somatic principles to produce a relational practice that is non-dogmatic, eminently practical, and immediately accessible by anyone.

Inspired by the circling movement in Boulder in the 90’s, this practice has since transformed relationships regardless of context by providing simple and easy sentence stems, relational plays, body tracking methods, and language to use. These tools support leaning into the discomfort, whereby you and the person you are communicating with can feel safe, held, and accepted in each others presence.

Can learning these tools help my team or my business?

“On average 50% of employees remain quiet and don’t speak up when things feel off or are going wrong.” Gallup, 2019

The reason? People fear being labeled negatively and don’t want to risk damaging valuable relationships or simply fear losing their jobs if they raise these concerns. The impact of self-censorship in your company could lead to serious issues not being raised potentially leading to to irreparable damage being caused, due to a lack of awareness. So how do you create the conditions to support a braver and psychologically safe environment?

💫 Compassionate feedback: Learn tools and frameworks to receive and give clear, actionable, and constructive feedback

💫 Clear ways of working and responsibilities: Find a shared language to define guard rails for how to and how not to work together

💫 Empowered participation to enhance productivity & cooperation: Create a psychologically safe context, that allows for your employees’ needs and ideas to surface and be heard

When people don’t feel heard, and aren’t able to shape or contribute to their workplace environments, this naturally leads to being disengaged. With only 32% of today’s employees are actively engaged in the work they do (Gallup 2020). It’s becoming increasingly imperative for us to build braver cultures.

If you’re reading this, I trust it’s because you are a business owner who wishes to do things differently. I’m here to support you as a business owner in creating optimal conditions for a psychologically safe, brave and honest culture.

  • "To be surrounded by such thoughtful people, an extremely special week. The value, the connection and the humanisation, and the impact it will have on our organisation is hard to define. I think its something we will see the effects for months to come after the experience, and I am really grateful for that"

    Tyler Gelato, Molecule Founder

  • "Nicole showed me new ways of communicating but also how to listen and respond with love and compassion. It taught me a lot about myself and for all of this I will be forever grateful to Nicole. I felt truly at home, like I have finally found my tribe."

    Nick Duncan, Professional Actor

  • "The kind of exercises and frameworks we did were really led from a place of compassion. I am left with a strong impression of being touched and moved both from how the space was created here, and the impact you could really see it had on the team"

    Paul Kohlhass, Start Up Founder
